Examples of music magazines

This is an example of a music magazine.

This magazine is called "Rolling Stone" and mainly deals with rock music with some popular culture music and some main news issues.

The front of the magazine has two contrasting colours (red and blue) with a large dominating picture in the centre. The writing around the outside is in large white font which separates itself from the picture and its story.

You can tell the magazine is American due to its picture and its text surrounding it. The picture is of a popular singer dressed as a Sailor pin up girl which is a popular thing in America. The story around it is about the Guantanamo camp which provides a good contrast between the real news and music which is why the magazine is as popular as it is.

NME magazine is a English music magazine dealing with Indie music.

Colours used are also contrasting which suggests that the magazine is created this way to stand out from other magazines to create a sense of individuality, as if they do not want colours to match to attract people to it.

The front also has a large masthead which is pushed to a side. It is in block letters outlined in black which is very noticeable and leaps out at you against the yellow background. The main picture also dominates the front cover with a controversial musician which also suggests that the magazine is trying to be controversial and not fit in with typical conventions.
